Esports is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and the industry is expected to triple by 2027. 20% of the 240,000 U.S. esports/gaming workforce identifies as Black while 83% of Black teens play video games. While the percentage of minority gamers is exceptionally high, there's minimal representation in the industry resulting in only about 14% of video games made by Black and Hispanic creators.
Cxmmunity's mission is to increase the participation of minorities within the esports and gaming industries, and we partner with companies like "Riot Games" to present events like this to our communities...
In preparation for the 2022 League of Legends WORLDS Semifinal in Atlanta this Fall, Cxmmunity is hosting "The Kickback" - an entertainment, media, and educational platform with digital and live events that will drive lasting change across the HBCU and collegiate gaming community.
"The Kickback" will feature gamers, celebrities, music artists, and technology that have been instrumental to cultivating the next wave of esports.
Students will get to hear from pioneers in the industry, and gain exposure to careers that are shaping gaming culture and the competitive global sport of a new generation.
This opportunity is geared towards students ranging between 13-25 years old (8th grade to post-secondary students) years old, but the more the merrier! We know the earlier a student understands this industry and the pipelines of success, the better.

THE KICKBACK KUP

1pm-6pm League of Legends & Valorant Collegiate Tournaments
Based on the 100 year old tradition of HBCU football classics, The Riot Kickback Kup will be a Riot Games sponsored match up between rival HBCUs.
Players will be recruited from current student esports clubs at each school, while non-players will work behind the scenes in production and logistics. The tournament will also feature guest appearances from celebrities and pro-gamers.
